journalism

(old picture from my Taking the Stage days but feel like it captures me in my natural setting pretty well..with a guitar in hand)

As a main cast member of MTV's reality show Taking the Stage, I was submerged into a crazy world of camera crews, producers & artists. I'm so grateful for my opportunity as I grew not only as a musician at the School for Creative and Performing Arts, but I also learned more about the world outside of my suburban home in an urban city. I learned to express my self and be comfortable with who I am as me, not someone else. Originality was cool. It was uncool to be like everyone else at SCPA, and this helped me overcome a lot of insecurties being surronded by such confident, beautiful, creative creatures.

Besides daring to be myself, I also learned about the whole other side of TV shows and music producing..the stuff that goes on behind the cameras. I know that being a singer/songwriter is a cut throat world and the chances of making it big are slim to none. This is not saying that I haven't given up the idea. It's just I've gotten more realstic about it and sing/write/perform/play as a side-a way to escape and express myself for fun-more so than pursuing it as a career.

This new world of production thrilled me. So I found myself in a Broadcast Journalism & Creative writing classes in my pursuit to dive into the media world after highschool/college. I'm not sure what I want to do with journalism yet, but I know a big part of who I am is involved with writing and creating things. I do know that I admire the men & women on 60 minutes, NPR.com music and hope to do something along the lines of this one day.

In my student run broadcast, I've worked mainly on the Arts & Entertainment reports. I've filmed several bands and montaged videos together and posting it on the student website along with a short bio of the band.

Above are links to some of my broadcasting projects. Journalism is something I hope to pursue. I love getting lost in montaging, editing and slicing together footage while intertwining it with music and creating different shots through footage.

This is a link to my Youtube page. If you have the chance I'd love for you to sit back, relax & listen & let me know what you think! I'd love to hear from you!

^this is where all of my blogging began. check it out and see how much I've grown ;)
